dc.description.abstract"The augusti species group of the genus Eleutherodactylus is composed of two species, E. tarahumaraensis and E. augusti. Eleutherodactylus tarahumaraensis inhabits high regions of the Sierra Madre Occidental in Chihuahua and Durango, Mexico. Eleutherodactylus augusti is a polytypic species ranging from Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas to the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. Four races of augusti are recognized: augusti, latrans, cactorum, and fuscofemora, the last-named described as new in this paper. The races differ from one another in maximum size attained, color and pattern, tympanum size, and leg length. Eleutherodactylus augusti, latrans, and cactorum were formerly considered to be distinct species, along with E. bolivari Taylor which is treated as a synonym of E. a. cactorum"--P. 33.en_US
