dc.description.abstract"Since Protolabis Cope (1876) was described, species of this genus, including the type species have frequently been confused with those of Procamelus and Miolabis. A brief taxonomic history of Protolabis, as well as a clarification of the type species, is given along with characters that distinguish Protolabis from both Procamelus and Miolabis. Michenia agatensis, a specialized camelid of smaller size, near the base of the evolutionary radiation of the protolabines, is also described. Although its ancestry is unknown, Michenia agatensis more closely resembles Dyseotylopus migrans Stock from the upper part of the Sespe Formation of California than any other known Arikareean camelid"--P. 21-22.en_US
