Some of its distinctive features, such as nails instead of claws on the halluces, wide upper incisors, and large molars with simple and laminar-like occlusal surfaces are not characteristic of Rattus. The species is known by two specimens from the island of Luzon in the Philippines. The relationship of latidens to other Murinae with nails on the halluces is discussed. Aspects of its natural history are presented"--P.
