It is redescribed and divided into two groups, defined on the basis of male and female genitalia. Relationships within the genus are discussed, and a cladogram is presented; simplicia and cuyana form an apomorphic group and are sister species to all the others in the genus. A key is given for the species, based on male genitalia. All species are described, and both the adults and their genitalia are illustrated; distributional data are given for all species. The following species are described as new: desolata (California), montana (California), sinaloa (Sinaloa), incana (Nevada), vatia (Arizona), and petila (Texas); aberration 'obliterata' Warren is placed as a synonym of pallescens McDunnough.
