Abstract

Field catalog of primarily mammal specimens collected during the 6th Archbold Expedition to New Guinea. Compiled by expedition mammalogist Van Deusen, data includes field number, name, sex, date, locality, elevation, measurements, what type of specimen (skin, skeleton, etc.), habitat notes and other notes including information about parasites on specimens. Items gifted to the collection are noted as well. Field numbers 15001-17298 are included and most entries have been updated with the Museum catalog number. Locations of note covered in the Territory of New Guinea include Lae, Oomsis Creek, Gurakor, Mt. Kaindi, Mt. Wilhelm, Mt. Otto, Bena Bena, Mt. Michael, Okapa, Kainanta, the Kratke mountain range, Markham River Valley and Wau. Hobart M. Van Deusen was a mammalogist and Assistant Curator of the Archbold Collections in the American Museum of Natural History Department of Mammalogy. He participated in the Cape York Expedition as well as three of the Archbold New Guinea Expeditions, leading the seventh in 1964.

Description

[1], 78, [14] pages ; 29 cm. Handwritten on lined paper in spring clasped binder. Numbered pages are marked in an open book format (same number on verso and opposite recto) and have blank verso and recto between them. Two folded pages of specimens collected after the end of the expedition by Van Deusen with B.J. Narlow of the Australian Museum laid in between pages 72 and 73.
