dc.description.abstract"The genus Sabulodes is revised for the first time, and Phengommataea Hulst is placed in its synonymy. The genus is redescribed and divided into four groups; the latter are defined primarily on the basis of male genitalia and secondary sexual characters. Keys are given to the species, based on male and female genitalia. All species are described, and both the adults and their genitalia are illustrated; distributional data are given for all species. The following are described as new: Sabulodes caberata oberthuri (Ecuador), plauta (Mexico), solola (Guatemala), wygodzinskyi (Colombia), setosa (Mexico), mucronis (Jamaica), laticlavia (Cuba), curta (Puerto Rico), striata (Guyana), triangula (Brazil), loba (Mexico), depile (Bolivia), pumilla (Guatemala), and huachuca (United States: Arizona). A large number of Neotropical species have been placed in Sabulodes, but the great majority do not belong in the genus. The 36 included psecies are distributed from southwestern Canada (British Columbia) and the western United States, south to southern South America and the Greater Antilles. They appear to be absent from the Lesser Antilles, Trinidad, the lower Amazonian basin, northeastern Brazil, and Chile. At least two species in the genus are commercial pests; these are aegrotata Guenée in california, and caberata Guenée in Brazil"--P. 197.en_US
