dc.description.abstract | "Crunomys contains four species native to the Philippine Islands and Sulawesi (Celebes). Crunomys fallax is from Luzon; C. rabori, new species, occurs on Leyte; C. melanius lives on Mindanao; and C. celebensis, new species, is native to middle altitudes in mountainous Central Sulawesi. The species are described and contrasted with one another. Crunomys is related to Archboldomys, new genus and species, a small-bodied shrew rat from southeastern Luzon. That rat is described, compared with species of Crunomys, then contrasted with the three species of small-bodied shrew rats endemic to Central Sulawesi: Melasmothrix naso, Tateomys rhinogradoides, and T. macrocercus, new species. Relationships among the four genera are discussed. Insular and altitudidinal distributions are also presented as well as some data on habitats and habits"--P. 3. | en_US |
