Abstract
map 1: Birds: summary of: Uvea Is. (Loyalty Group. W. Pacific): contains information on the area of the tall original forest, area of shorter original forest (including garden area), area under more or less permanent culture occonuts, etc., swamp lands (including basket mangrove), scanty swamp vegetation on sal pan lands, low wind blown , abript coral outcrops, area of sea deposited and banks along lagoon side.
map 2: Erromanga Island, Southern New Hebrides, W. Pacific. Contains geographical descriptions, sub areas and variations in soil and vegetation, a general summary of bird life, zones of bird life, and notes on individual species. Coast and points accurage. Main peaks approximately accurate. Ranges and highlands approximate. Rivers approximately accurate, correct at mouths. Copy outline by Capt. Bayldon. Interior by L. Macmillan. [corrected]

Approximately correct outline and interior from sketch Noumea survey department.Macmillan led the Whitney South Sea Expedition from 1935 to 1940. Macmillan's wife, Joy, accompanied him on the expedition, acting as an assistant. Lindsay was trained by A.J. Marshall, a well-known Australian ornithologist. Before joining WSSE, Macmillan was already well-versed in skinning and collection bird specimens. He left WSSE to join the Australian military during World War II.
