Abstract:

"This third part of 'Type specimens of birds in the American Museum of Natural History' continues the list begun by James C. Greenway, Jr., and corresponds to taxa covered in volume 7 of Peters' Check-list of birds of the world. In taxonomic order (according to Peters' Check-list), this section precedes part 4, which was published earlier. Four hundred forty-two published names are discussed herein. For each taxon, the type locality and currently recognized name are given; for many, comments on taxonomic history are provided"--P. [3].

    The Bulletin, published continuously since 1881, consists of longer monographic volumes in the field of natural sciences relating to zoology, paleontology, and geology. Current numbers are published at irregular intervals. The Bulletin was originally a place to publish short papers, while longer works appeared in the Memoirs. However, in the 1920s, the Memoirs ceased and the Bulletin series began publishing longer papers. A new series, the Novitates , published short papers describing new forms.
