Whitney South Sea Expeditions Collection.Daily observations, field notes and letters written by Drowne during his time as a physician, researcher, and collector for the Whitney South Sea Expedition. Drowne and his team collected specimens from various islands, including the Solomon Islands, New Hebrides, and Papua New Guinea. Vol. 1 contains a letter from Drowne to Robert C. Murphy pasted on to front flyleaf and an untitled typescript poem by Drowne, dated November 24, 1927, pasted on page 298. Vol. 2 includes several hand-colored scientific illustrations (some folded) and newpaper clippings at rear. Drowne, a physician, joined the Whitney South Sea Expedition in 1927 as a field researcher and collector. He had previously traveled on an expedition to the Galapagos with Rollo Beck. Drowne left the expedition in 1928 after an illness.
